Contemporary folk

Folk music has deeply rooted in Estonia's music and musicians are blending folk and national music elements with electronic mediums. Folk scene is very popular with many events, the biggest being Viljandi Folk Music Festival.

Mari Kalkun

Mari Kalkun (1986), born in Võrumaa, Southern Estonia uses kannel, accordion, guitar and piano in addition to her strong and mesmerising vocal. Kalkun has released five albums and performed all over Europe and Japan.

Trad! Attack (Sandra Vabarna, Jalmar Vabarna, Tõnu Tubli) is a hugely popular Estonian band. They combine folk, rock and electronica. Trad! Attack's energetic stage presence and melodies have earned them big following abroad, too.
